Childhood vaccinations update

  • Routine childhood and adult vaccinations are continuing through the COVID-19 pandemic.
  • Routine vaccinations provide essential protection against potentially life-threatening diseases.
  • While coronavirus has had an impact and put limitations on all our lives, it is important that you or your baby or child still have routine vaccinations. They protect against serious and potentially deadly illnesses and stop outbreaks in the community.
  • It is safe to go and have your vaccinations – GP practices have measures in place to minimise any risk to you and your family.
  • If you or your child has missed a vaccinations appointment because of disruption related to COVID-19, please ring your GP practice to re-book. Most routine vaccines given by GPs are for children aged 0-5 and pregnant women.
  • You do not need to contact your GP regarding immunisations that are normally delivered through schools, as you will be contacted separately about this.
  • For details of which vaccinations are given, please visit www.nhs.uk/vaccinations
  • If the person needing vaccination has coronavirus symptoms or is self-isolating because someone in the household is displaying symptoms, please contact your GP practice to reschedule.
